Week 7 - Abraham

Here's a puppet script we used for this week that I heavily modified from the internet:

Abraham and Sarah Puppet Script

Based off of a script by Kurt Hunter

Narrator: Long ago, there lived a man named Abram.

Abram: (enter stage left) Here! Here I am! Right here!

Narrator: His wife’s name was Sarai.

Sarai: (enter stage right) Yoo-hoo! AAAAAAaaaaabe! Here I am!

Abram: Ain’t she a dish?

Sarai: Oh, Abe, you’ve been saying that for… well…

Abram: More than 50 years!

Sarai: Abe! Shhh! I don’t want them to know how old I am!

Abram: Well, maybe they didn’t hear.

Narrator: They had been married for a long time and they had grown very old.

Sarai: Abe!

Narrator: Like seriously old.

Abram: All right, all right.

Narrator: REEEALLY almost dead old.

Abram: Oh, come on!

Narrator: (clears throat) They had lots of relatives and friends, but they never had any children. And now they were old.

Abram: Really?

Narrator: One day, God spoke to Abram. (Abram looks around.) He told Abram “I want you to leave your home and go to a land that I will show you. If you do this, I will give you many children and grandchildren.”

Abram: You hear that, Sarai?

Sarai: What? Where are we going?

Narrator: Well, Abram and Sarai probably didn’t want to leave their home, (Abram and Sarai shake heads) but they trusted in God, so they gathered their belongings, their servants, and all their sheep and camels and donkeys and they left to go where God led them. (Have livestock stick puppet accompany them)

Abram: Pack it up!

Sarai: (sighs) Here we go!

Narrator: They traveled a LOOOONG ways. (Move slowly stage right) They came to a beautiful land. (Stick Puppet leaves.) God said to Abram “This is the land that I promised you. One day, this land will belong to your children and your grandchildren.” Abram and Sarai knew they didn’t have any children, and that’s really hard for really old people to do…

Abram and Sarai: Hey!

Narrator: ..but still they trusted God. It was not yet God’s time for them to claim this beautiful new land, though, so they continued to travel. They would set-up their tents wherever they went. (Tent stick puppet.) By now, Abram was almost 100 years old and Sarai was 90. They had been following where God lead for 25 years, which made them that much OLDER.

Abram and Sarai: (sigh and shake their heads)

Narrator: Again, God spoke to Abram (Abram looks around) and again God promised that Abram would have many children and grandchildren. God said that Abram would be the father of nations. God changed Abram’s name to Abraham (“Abram” sign comes up and rotates to other side that says “Abraham” and then goes down), which means father of nations. God changed Sarai’s name to Sarah (“Sarai” sign comes up, rotates to “Sarah” and goes down), which means princess.

Abraham: So, Sarah… (Sarai looks around) Sarah…. (Sarai looks around) SARAH!

Sarah: Who, me? Oh, right! Abram…

Abraham: Ham.

Sarah: No thanks. Abram…

Abraham: Ham.

Sarah: I’m not hungry! Now Abram…

Abraham: Abra-HAM!

Sarah: Oh… that’s right. Anyway… what was I saying?

Abraham: This is going to be confusing.

Narrator: It’s because you lose memory function when you’re really old.

Abraham: I’m going to get that guy.

Narrator: Anyway, God told Abraham that Sarah would have a son.

Abraham: Sarah, we’re going to have a baby!

Narrator: Sarah laughed when she heard that.

Sarah: Ha!

Narrator:Yes, Sarah will have a son, God said, and you will name him Isaac, which means laughter.

Sarah: Now I feel awkward. Okay… this may seem redundant to say… but how is that possible? I’m… (looks around then whispers) I’m really old!

Narrator: But God said “Is anything too difficult for God? Next year Sarah will have a son.” Just as God had promised, Sarah did get pregnant and gave birth to a son. (Isaac baby stick puppet) They named him Isaac, meaning laughter, as God had told them to.

Sarah: “God has given me laughter. All who hear this will rejoice with me!”
